Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect from my first visit?:
Upon your first visit, your therapist will perform a thorough evaluation of your specific condition, including a postural assessment, neurological evaluation, and specific tests and measures to determine the best optimal treatment plan for you.
Do you accept my insurance? What is cash-based therapy?:
As a cash-based clinic, we have a large clientele that has great insurance, and we are focused on you and your individual goals. As a result, we are considered “out of network”. For more information on cash-based therapy please click here (insert link to cash-based page on website)
What should I wear to my therapy appointment?:
As a largely exercise and manual-therapy based practice, you should be able to move comfortably while in therapy, throughout a full range of motion. Access to the affected area is encouraged within patient comfort to allow for appropriate manual therapy techniques such as soft tissue massage, joint mobilizations, and mobilizations with movement to be performed.
How long is each session?:
For your initial evaluation, plan on 45-75minutes to allow for the therapist to perform a thorough evaluation, education on the condition, home exercise instruction, and implementation of any treatment or modalities as deemed fit. Each follow-up session can range in time from 30-75+ minutes depending your specific needs, with some sessions exceeding the 75 minute mark as treatment progresses.
Do I need to see my doctor before seeing a Physical Therapist?:
No, New York State participates in Direct Access, allowing individuals to seek out physical therapy services without the referral of a physician. However, please note that some individual insurance companies will require physician referral, please check with your individual provider for these regulations.
How do I track my progress in physical therapy?:
Every 4 weeks, or ~30 days, your therapist will perform a reevaluation of the areas of deficit or problem you presented with upon your initial evaluation. Should you have a follow-up with your referring physician coming up, inform your therapist or the front office to ensure that a reevaluation is performed as close to your follow-up as possible, so that all measurements and notes can be sent to your physician for accurate tracking of your progress.
What types of services can I expect from physical therapy?:
Your physical therapist is a highly trained specialist in movement science, and will provide appropriate treatment techniques to return you to optimal function. Such treatment techniques may include manual therapy such as soft or deep tissue massage, joint mobilization, Mulligan Mobilization with Movement, electrical stimulation, heat or cryotherapy, all in combination with exercise therapy specifically structured to focus on your individual needs.
